A Helston teaching assistant is lacing up for one of the UK’s biggest marathons – all to give her pupils more chances to play, grow and thrive.
Emily Shields, who has worked at Parc Eglos School for the past year, will run the Manchester Marathon this Sunday (April 19), raising money for the Friends of Parc Eglos School (FoPE). The funds will go towards new outdoor and sports equipment for pupils.

Speaking to the Packet, Emily said she is “feeling excited and slightly nervous” as race day approaches.
“I’m running this marathon as a personal challenge and to help raise money for our school’s sports equipment, giving the kids more opportunities to be active, build confidence, and have fun,” she said.
Emily, who is currently on holiday in Morocco, has even been training while abroad ahead of Sunday’s marathon.
FoPE described her as “our amazing Mrs Shields”, praising her decision to dedicate her marathon effort to the school community.

The Parc Eglos community is now rallying behind her as she prepares to join thousands of runners on the streets of Manchester this weekend.
