Free parking is to end in parts of Porthleven with charges being introduced from as early as next week.
Porthleven Harbour and Dock Company, which owns and manages the harbour area of the popular Cornish fishing village, said the move was “to enhance the upkeep and development of the area”.
The charges will be in force along Commercial Road, also known as Harbour Road on maps, from the start of the road to the Bickford Smith Institute by the pier.
A pay and display machine will be installed centrally, near the shops, and it will also be possible to Pay by App.
Parking restrictions are scheduled to start during the week commencing Monday, April 27, immediately after Porthleven Food Festival, once the ticket machine and Pay by App signage has been installed.

A spokesperson for Porthleven Harbour and Dock Company said: “In a move to enhance the upkeep and development of the area, parking charges will soon be implemented on Commercial Road in Porthleven.
"After considerable evaluation, the decision aims to generate necessary revenue for the maintenance and improvement of the harbour and surrounding public areas benefitting both locals and visitors.
“For years, the harbour vicinity has enjoyed free parking accessibility, contributing to its appeal. However, as the area flourishes with increased activities and visitation, new measures have been deemed essential to sustain its growth and charm.”
The company has said that the introduction of parking fees is primarily designed to:
- Boost local economy: “Managing parking more effectively will support local businesses by improving accessibility and turnover of parking spaces.”
- Ensure upkeep and maintenance: “Funds raised will be directly allocated to maintaining and enhancing the harbour's infrastructure, guaranteeing that it remains a vibrant and attractive space for all.”
- Upgrade facilities: “Improved amenities facilitated by the additional revenue will provide an enriched experience for everyone who visits the harbour area.”

The spokesperson said the initiative “aligns with our custodianship of Porthleven Harbour and our commitment to preserving the beauty and functionality of the harbour area ensuring it continues to thrive and remain a popular visitor destination.”
They added: “We appreciate that this change will require some adjustment for local Porthleven residents, however there is still plenty of free parking close to the harbour and surrounding roads for residents.
“Parking income will be reinvested directly into the maintenance of the Harbour and implementing enhancements around the general area.
“In addition to the community groups and organisations that Porthleven Harbour & Dock Company already support, we will commit to increasing our support and sponsorship towards other local initiatives with income derived from parking revenue.”
The company has said the parking charges will align with those in Cornwall Council’s Kitto’s Car Park in the town centre.
Parking services will be provided by Euro Parking Services Limited, which also operates the Shrubberies Car Park on behalf of Porthleven Town Council.
