Fans of TALAY Thai won’t have much longer to wait, as the team behind the much‑loved St Ives restaurant prepares to open its new Porthleven venue within the next few weeks.

On Monday, the Packet revealed that the popular Thai restaurant will be taking over the China Clay Store building on Porthleven’s harbour front - a site with a strong foodie history. The building was most recently home to Cantina, which closed at the end of last year, and before that housed a Rick Stein restaurant.

Excitement has been building since TALAY Thai confirmed the move on social media. In a post shared on Instagram, a spokesperson for the restaurant said: “St Ives and now Porthleven. Talay Thai is growing and making the move. Same unreal Thai flavours, new postcode. Opening soon.”

The Packet can now reveal that the new restaurant is expected to open in four to six weeks, with refurbishment works taking place daily as the team transforms the space.

Jill Eldridge, manager of the St Ives restaurant and the soon‑to‑open Porthleven site, said preparations are well underway. “We haven’t got a specific date for opening yet, but there are works taking place,” she said. “It will be the same décor as our St Ives restaurant, with a cocktail bar area, and restaurant upstairs and downstairs.”

Jill added that the expansion will be a welcome change for regulars who currently travel across west Cornwall for their favourite dishes. “We have a lot of customers from Porthleven and the surrounding areas, so it will be better for them to enjoy TALAY Thai without having to drive to St Ives. It’s going to be really nice for people.”

She added that the Porthleven restaurant will echo the look and feel of the St Ives venue, including its signature artwork throughout.

Interest is already strong, with passers‑by stopping to peer through the windows and ask when the doors will open. “We’ve already had a lot of interest from people walking by,” Jill said.
