Search the Public Notice PortalThe vets practice behind plans to open a new consulting branch clinic in Porthleven has been revealed.
At the start of April the Packet reported that a new consultation unit could soon be on its way to the port, offering what is thought would be the village’s first dedicated space for everyday pet appointments.
An application submitted to Cornwall Council’s planning department by Joanna Sharp, on behalf of the Porthleven Harbour & Dock Company, outlined plans to site a 7m x 3m anthracite‑grey Portacabin in The Shipyard, to house a consultation room and waiting area.

However, at that stage it did not state which practice was behind the plans.
Now Mounts Bay Veterinary Centre has revealed that it has submitted the application through the Harbour & Dock Company.
It comes in the same month that the practice celebrated its 16th birthday caring for pets.
It has also recently become the first veterinary practice in Cornwall to become employee-owned, explaining: “This was a significant step in ensuring that we remain an independent practice for the long-term, putting the needs of your pets and our community first.”
Now the veterinary centre has shared more details about its plans to open a new consulting branch clinic in Porthleven, saying it was to “better meet the needs of our many pet-owner customers to the east of Penzance.”

Practice manager Sacha Stevens told the Packet: “At present we are awaiting the confirmation of necessary planning consents; pending a successful outcome, we hope to open our Porthleven Consulting Branch of Mounts Bay Vets this coming summer.
“Located next to the Shipyard Market in Porthleven Shipyard, our modern purpose-built building will provide a comfortable waiting area and consulting room to serve the animals and clients in the Porthleven area.
“Our goal is to provide a convenient clinic for pet-owners to access routine veterinary care such as vaccination, or your first stop for an expert opinion on poorly pets; parking spaces will also be available for client use immediately adjacent to the clinic building.”

The practice intends to offer a full consulting service at the clinic, with dispensary and pet-food sales.
However, any diagnostic or investigative procedures, such as X-rays, ultrasound and any surgery, will take place at its main site in Long Rock, which has facilities for inpatient care.
Mounts Bay Veterinary Centre has promised further details on opening times through the week will be published soon. In the meantime anyone wanting to register at the new Porthleven branch can contact the main practice via email or telephone.
