Sennen Community Primary Academy praised by Ofsted

Inspectors found "leadership and governance, curriculum and teaching, attendance and behaviour, inclusion, achievement, and personal development and wellbeing all meet the expected standard."

The inspectors praised the academy for its "strong leadership" and an "inclusive school culture."

They commended staff and management's "strong understanding of what is working well," their attentive monitoring of teaching, and their quick response to needed changes.

Inspectors found that "pupils typically achieve well," obtaining essential knowledge and skills in core areas, making a "positive start in early reading."

The school's inclusive approach, effective pastoral support, and strong relationships with families were also recognised in the report.

Headteacher Samantha Gillion said: "I am delighted that the inspection recognises Sennen school as a place where children experience a truly joyful education.

"This report reflects the dedication of our staff, the support of our families and our shared commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and nurturing school where every child can thrive."

Similarly, Chris Gould, Deputy CEO of Truro & Penwith Academy Trust, said: "We are absolutely delighted and proud of Sennen school.

"To achieve the expected standard in all areas under the new Ofsted framework is something for the whole school community to celebrate.”

The report highlighted that parents and carers have positive perceptions of the academy.

Leaders were credited for successfully navigating a difficult period of leadership transition and for their commitment "to putting pupils' interests first."

According to the report: "Leaders recognise that further work is needed to secure greater consistency in teaching," but adds they have already made progress through well-focused training and coaching for staff.

The inclusion of a nursery in their early years provision was also applauded as a successful expansion and an enrichment of the quality of early years education.

The Ofsted assessment demonstrates that the staff's hard work and dedication at Sennen Community Primary Academy are delivering results, with pupils typically achieving well and being effectively prepared for their secondary education, with most pupils reaching the expected standard in the end-of-key-stage-2 national tests.
