In a bid to refurbish and future‑proof the building ahead of its 100th anniversary next year, a fundraising campaign has been launched to support essential upgrades at Porthleven Public Hall.
Gifted to the people of Porthleven in 1927, the hall has been at the centre of village life for nearly a century. Today, around 400 people use the space every week – an impressive number in a village of fewer than 3,500 residents.
The hall hosts a huge range of activities and support services, including judo, yoga, art groups, bingo, dance, table‑top gaming, bereavement support, pre‑school football, Pilates and the Women’s Institute.

It is also the home of the much‑loved Community Hub, a weekly free provision offering hot drinks, food, internet access, children’s activities and drop‑in support from organisations including Age UK, Mind and Marie Curie.
Chair of Trustees, Cath Horne, said: “As we approach our 100th anniversary, we want to honour the hall’s incredible legacy by ensuring it remains a safe, welcoming and affordable space for future generations.
“This hall is woven into the life of Porthleven, and we are determined to see it thrive for another 100 years.”
Regular users say the Hub has become a lifeline. Angie, one of the attendees, said: “Since the Hub opened, my friends and I have really used it and enjoyed it. In fact, over the months it has become a very important and welcome part of our lives.

"The team who run it are just the best—so kind; they really look after us with food and care, and they do special events for us like quizzes, Easter events, lots of crafts, and they even had a wreath‑making event at Christmas which was so much fun and so well attended.
"I can’t thank them enough for all they do; it’s one of the best things that has happened to the village. A safe, friendly, welcoming place for all ages to meet. We all love it.”
