A quiet beach in Cornwall has been deemed the 'Bali of the UK' owing to its stunning features and peaceful atmosphere.
Now that the weather is getting warmer and the beaches are beginning to look more and more inviting, there is arguably no place better in the country for a sandy excursion than Cornwall.
Cornwall is awash with magnificent beaches dotted up and down its coastline, but one is perhaps more special than the rest.
The Bali of the UK
Writing for Conde Nast Traveller, Ali Panthony wrote: "If you're planning a beachside staycation this summer, one UK beach boasts sands so white and sea so blue, it's often compared to Bali.
"In fact, it's often voted one of the best beaches in the world.
"Pedn Vounder – roughly translating to ‘end of the lane’ from Cornish – is a hidden beach located on the rugged Penwith Peninsula in Cornwall near Porthcurno.
"Famous for its turquoise water, white sand, and dramatic granite cliffs, it's easy to see why it's often compared to the pristine beaches of Indonesia or the Caribbean."
It was ranked as the 25th best beach in the world a few years ago by Big 7 Travel, who said: “Combining crystal clear blue water and white sand, it’s proof that you don’t need to hot foot to the Caribbean for a tropical island-inspired getaway”.
Pedn Vounder closed to public
Sadly Pedn Vounder Beach near Porthcurno has been declared unsafe and is now closed to the public.
The National Trust said last year that increasing erosion, undercutting the cliff, was the reason for this decision.
Because the beach is tidal, much of the sand disappears at high tide.
But when you do reach it, there are very, very few complaints.
One person wrote on Tripadvisor: "Pedn Vounder Beach is hands down one of the most stunning places I’ve visited in the UK.
"Tucked away on the Cornish coast near Porthcurno, it feels completely untouched, with turquoise waters, soft sand, and dramatic cliffs. Photos don’t do it justice.

"Getting there from London was easier than I expected. I took a direct train from London Paddington to Penzance (just under 5 hours), followed by a local bus to Treen and a short coastal walk.
"The final path down to the beach is a bit steep, but manageable with good shoes."
Another wrote: "Absolutely one of the best beaches in Cornwall. As previously said in reviews, wear good footwear, rucksack, and leave hands free for the scramble down.
"I’m 64 with dodgy knees, as long as you take it slowly, mostly on my bottom , you can do it ! Getting back up is easier."
