Five people have been injured, four seriously, and taken to hospital after a multi-vehicle crash on the A30 in Cornwall this morning.
Emergency services remain at the scene of the collision at Connor Downs, which involved five cars and has forced the closure of the A30 in both directions between Loggans Moor and Treswithian.
Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the latest casualty figures this afternoon and said the road is likely to remain shut for “some time” while investigations continue.
A spokesperson said: “Five people have been injured with four confirmed with serious injuries.
“The collision involved five cars.
“The scene has been attended by police officers, the fire service, ambulance service, the air ambulance and partner agencies.
“The road is closed in both directions and will remain so for some time.
“We would like to thank members of the public for their ongoing patience while a full investigation is carried out at the scene.”
Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward, quoting log number 295 of May 29.
The South Western Ambulance Service said it sent a significant response to the incident after being called at 10.59am, including five double-crewed ambulances, two air ambulances, operations officers and a rapid response vehicle.
Three patients were initially taken to hospital by land and air, with police later confirming a total of five casualties.
National Highways South West said the A30 remains closed between the B3301 at Hayle and the A3047 near Camborne, with diversions in place. Motorists are being advised to follow signed routes and allow extra time for their journeys.
Despite the closure, traffic on the approach is currently reported to be moving with minimal delays.
Police have also urged people not to share images of the scene on social media out of respect for those involved.
