Family-friendly community bike ride in Falmouth June 6

Residents of all ages are being invited to take part in the ride on Saturday, June 6, organised by the Falmouth and Penryn Walking & Cycling Campaign.

Cyclists will gather on The Moor for a 3pm start before travelling through the town centre to Pendennis Point and Gyllyngvase Beach, returning via Arwenack Avenue.

The event is designed to support people who may lack confidence cycling independently, offering the opportunity to ride in a safe and supportive group setting.

Volunteer marshals from Falmouth Wheelers Cycling Club will be present to help ensure the ride runs smoothly, although participants have been advised they take part at their own risk. Riders are also encouraged to wear helmets and check their bikes are roadworthy before setting off.

Danny Daniell, chair of Falmouth Wheelers Cycling Club, said the group was pleased to support the campaign and encouraged people to get involved.

He said: “We would encourage anyone who has a bike tucked away in the shed to dust it off and join us. Check that the tyres are inflated, the brakes are working properly and come along for what should be an enjoyable afternoon.”

Dean Evans, founder of the campaign, said the event aimed to both promote cycling and raise awareness about the need for improved infrastructure.

He said: “Many people tell us they would like to cycle more often but do not feel safe on some of our roads. This ride is about showing that there is a demand for safer cycling routes and encouraging more people to experience the benefits of cycling.”

The ride takes place ahead of Bike Week and the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival, giving families the chance to enjoy a relaxed community event before the town becomes busier.
