Falmouth voters in Arwenack and Penwerris will go to the polls next month to choose new town councillors following the resignations of the previous incumbents.
Cornwall Council has issued formal Notices of Election for one vacancy in Arwenack ward and one in Penwerris ward on Falmouth Town Council after both seats fell vacant earlier this summer.
The Arwenack seat was vacated when Green Party councillor Jon Stowell stood down, while Penwerris was left without representation following the resignation of councillor Kerry Holbrook.
If either contest is contested, polling day has been set for Thursday, August 13, 2026, with the elections being administered by Cornwall Council on behalf of the town council.
Nomination papers for prospective candidates are available from the Deputy Returning Officer at Cornwall Council, Electoral Services, County Hall, Treyew Road, Truro.
Completed nominations had to be delivered in person to County Hall no later than 4pm on Friday, July 17.
Anyone interested in becoming a town councillor was urged to study the Notice of Election carefully and ensure all paperwork was submitted before the deadline.
Residents who are not currently on the electoral register have until midnight on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 to sign up if they wish to vote in either ward.
Because voter ID rules apply to local elections, anyone needing a free Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector's Document must submit their application to Cornwall Council's Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
Applications can be made online through the Government's voter registration and photo ID services.
Electors unable to attend their polling station in person can apply for a postal vote, or change or cancel existing postal or proxy arrangements, by 5pm on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
Fresh applications to vote by proxy must reach the Electoral Registration Officer no later than 5pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, except in limited emergency circumstances such as unforeseen illness or employment, when applications may be accepted up to 5pm on polling day.

All applications and correspondence about absent voting for these elections should be sent to Electoral Services at County Hall in Truro.
The two casual vacancies have arisen midway through the town council term, triggering by-elections to ensure continued representation for residents in both wards.
Councillor Holbrook's resignation in Penwerris was followed within days by councillor Stowell's decision to step down in Arwenack.
The elections will now give residents in both wards the chance to choose who represents them on Falmouth Town Council.
