Former Falmouth deputy mayor, Louise Coley, has won her seat back on Falmouth Town Council for Labour after beating Reform UK in the Penwerris by-election, while the Green Party took the other vacant seat in Arwenack.
On the same day that Nigel Farage was battling it out with Count Binface, a more serious election was taking place in Falmouth as voters headed to the polls in two town council contests.
Labour candidate Ms Coley was elected in Penwerris with 318 votes, finishing ahead of Green Party candidate Sonny McMillan on 214 and Reform UK’s Anthony Bell on 136.
The result marks a return to the council chamber for Ms Coley, who previously served as deputy mayor of Falmouth.
Falmouth and Truro MP Jayne Kirkham congratulated her, saying: "It shows the commitment of Louise and the team and we’re honoured that Penwerris put their trust in her.
"I know she will be a very dedicated, experienced councillor."
Former town councillor John Spargo failed in his attempt to win back a seat, finishing fourth for the Liberal Democrats with 109 votes.
Independent candidate John Moore polled 22 votes, while Mebyon Kernow candidate Eden Shellabear-Sanchez received 30.
Turnout in Penwerris was 18.43%, with 831 ballot papers issued from an electorate of 4,508.
In Arwenack, Green Party candidate Teresa Angela Farthing was elected with 431 votes.
Conservative candidate Hannah Blanchard received 230 votes, while Mebyon Kernow’s Oscar Peters polled 209.
The Cornwall Green Party said: "Congratulations Tessa Farthing - elected as a new Green Councillor in Falmouth Arwenack!
"In Falmouth Penwerris, Sonny McMillan came a strong second, way ahead of Reform and the Lib Dems.
"Next time, Sonny!"
Arwenack saw the higher turnout of the two wards, at 21.42%, with 876 ballot papers issued from an electorate of 4,089.
