Penryn College 'could not be prouder' of GCSE results

Students from Penryn College's class of 2026 reunited at the school this morning (August 20) to celebrate their GCSE results, alongside supportive parents and teachers.

The results showed above national average numbers of students achieving both 4+ and 7+ grades – secured though their "hard work, determination and resilience".

Penryn College headteacher, Mrs Croxall, said: "We could not be prouder of their success, and we wish them all the very best for their futures.

"Well done to them all and to the staff and families who have worked tirelessly to inspire this success.

"They now have all the skills to start the next stage of their journey."

Twelve students bagged an average of grade 8 or higher in their GCSE's, with 25 achieving eight or more grades between 9 and 7.

A total of 118 pupils achieved at least one grade 7, and nearly 50 per cent of the cohort achieved at least a grade 5 in both English and Maths.

Across all of the ability ranges Penryn College pupils continued to make exceptional progress, with a significant number of pupils achieving grades higher than expected.

Staff also congratulated Kate B, Eden S, Penelope E, Marinour M and Theo F for scoring grade 9’s.

As students opened their brown envelopes, parents became emotional.

"We're overwhelmingly ecstatic," one parent said, telling The Packet that her daughter had persevered with 9's and 8's, despite being off school for much of the year due to an injury.

"Our new school motto is ‘Belong, Aspire, Succeed' and our year 11 students have embodied this in their approach to life at Penryn College, not only achieving academic success but taking advantage of all the other opportunities afforded to them along the way," Mrs Croxall added.

Penryn College says it prides itself in its results from students taking foreign languages.

Sixty-two per cent of the Spanish cohort this year achieved a grade 9, and the school had "wonderful results" from those students who studied home languages including Arabic, German, and Greek.

Another strength was the outcomes in sport, with 51 per cent of the PE GCSE grades being a 7 or above, and 62 per cent of students achieving a Merit or above.

Additionally, Year 10 students who sat their GCSE RE Fast Track exam a year early all achieved a grade, with sixty per cent of pupils achieving a grade 9-7 and nine students earning a grade 9.

Ten Year 11 students in the ARB have achieved huge successes – from "incredible" academic results to receiving their DofE certificates.

Almost all students (97.9 per cent) in the class of 2026 left Penryn College with at least one qualification, with the average number of qualifications achieved being 7.1.

Another parent said: “we are very pleased with the results.

"He wouldn’t be going on to where he is, having been awarded a scholarship, if it wasn’t for Penryn College."

A teacher remarked that they were happy about the "big smiles all around".
