As part of Falmouth Finds, our series celebrating the independent businesses that shape the town, this week we head to Event Square to visit Mango's by the Sea, the colourful sports bar that's bringing a fresh twist to Falmouth's waterfront.

Owned by Geoff King and Darren Parish, Mango's has been part of Falmouth's hospitality scene for around eight years.

Having built a loyal following on Church Street, the team spotted an opportunity to create something completely different when the prominent waterfront venue on Discovery Quay became available.

"We wanted to create somewhere that offered more than just a bar," explains head of operations Tracy Cantwell.

"Somewhere people could come to eat, drink, play and spend time together, whether they're here for an hour or an entire afternoon."

Opening during Sea Shanty Festival week certainly tested the team from day one. "We really were thrown in at the deep end," Tracy laughs.

"But it gave us a fantastic start and confirmed we'd chosen the right location."

The venue certainly makes the most of its setting. Looking out across Events Square and the harbour beyond, Mango's combines panoramic views with one of the largest indoor hospitality spaces in Falmouth.

Bright colours, comfortable seating and a relaxed atmosphere make it equally suited to families enjoying lunch, friends watching the football or visitors simply stopping for a drink by the water.

The motto here is simple: Eat, Drink, Play.

Sport is at the heart of the experience, with 16 large screens and the technology to show up to three different live sporting events simultaneously.

Whether it's Premier League football, Formula One, rugby, cricket or international tournaments, there's usually something on for sports fans to enjoy.

The venue opens from 10am every day, making it possible to catch everything from early morning fixtures to late-night games from around the world.

But it's not just about watching sport. Two pool tables, retro arcade games and private hire spaces mean there's plenty to keep everyone entertained.

"People want experiences now," Tracy says. "They don't just want to sit with a drink. They want somewhere they can relax, have fun and spend quality time together."

Food plays an important part too. Alongside a fully stocked bar, guests can enjoy baked goods from Prima Bakery, cakes from Taupe Cakery and freshly prepared street food from the popular Rogue food truck parked outside, serving everything from burgers and loaded fries to wraps and nachos.

The venue is proudly family friendly, with children welcome until 9pm when accompanied by an adult, and the team are keen to ensure everyone feels at home, from students and sports fans to families, locals and holidaymakers alike.

Looking ahead, Tracy says the focus is simple: "We're listening to our customers and continually evolving.

"We want Mango's to be somewhere people know they can come for great service, a relaxed atmosphere and a really enjoyable time."

Open seven days a week from 10am, Mango's by the Sea is proving that watching the match can be about much more than the final score.
