“Words of advice” were given to a student who sparked panic by bringing a nail gun into college.

Police were called to Duchy College Rosewarne, Camborne, at 11.45am on Tuesday (15 September) after reports of a student with an “air weapon”.

The campus went into lockdown while the police investigated the situation.

However, officers soon discovered that the reported weapon was in fact a nail gun brought in by the student.

The Rosewarne campus runs courses in agriculture, countryside management and landscaping.

Devon & Cornwall police said “words of advice were issued” to the student.

A Duchy College spokesperson said: “Police attended our Rosewarne campus yesterday morning following a reported concern.

“As a precaution, the campus was placed into lockdown while the situation was investigated.

“Our established safety procedures worked well, with students and staff responding quickly and appropriately.

“There was no risk identified.”
