One of Porthleven’s most popular annual events is returning to make a splash in the harbour.
After being cancelled last year due to poor weather, Porthleven Raft Race is set to go ahead this Sunday (September 20).
Organisers said: “The forecast is looking cracking for this Sunday and Porthleven Harbour is finally getting the handmade nautical chaos it deserves.”
“We’re back – and the weather is on our side!”
Entrants will bring their zany and colourful rafts to the slipway for registration at 10.30am, before launching ready for the big race in front of hundreds of cheering spectators lining the harbour walls.

The Town Mayor will start the race from the cannons by The Ship Inn at 12pm sharp, and racers will frantically paddle their crafts round a marker buoy and back to the finish line at the slipway.
“First one back without sinking takes the glory!”
Prizes will go to the fastest raft, the best raft (points for creativity and build quality), the worst raft that “barely defies the laws of physics”, and the best fancy dress.
The event will be followed by a post-race clean-up to “leave the harbour spick and span”, before competitors head to The Ship Inn for the prizegiving and live music from pop-punk band Kerosene Cocktail.

Organisers urge participants to be patient when launching on the busy road and slipway, and to stick strictly to the left of the harbour when paddling out to avoid the moored boats.
Anyone throwing eggs will also be disqualified and banned, according to organisers.
Entry is £5 per person at the slipway, with all proceeds going to the Porthleven Lights.
