A police car chase covering roughly 40 miles of Cornwall's roads finally ended in Helston last night.

The driver of the vehicle being pursued then tried to leave over neighbouring gardens, before being stopped by police officers shortly afterwards.

Emergency services closed off the B3297 Redruth Road at around 6.30pm on Thursday (November 5) after the vehicle was brought to a stop following “tactical contact.”

This morning (Friday, November 6) deep divots can be seen running across the grass verge, along with a partially collapsed wall.

There is also various debris including shards of plastic.

The incident actually began on the A30 near Bodmin, roughly two hours earlier.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “At around 4.20pm on Thursday, November 5 officers were alerted to a vehicle believed to be driven by a revoked licence holder on the A30 near Bodmin.

“The vehicle sped off and failed to stop.

“The vehicle exited the A30 at Redruth and took the B3297 towards Helston.

“The suspect vehicle was brought to a stop following tactical contact.

“The driver then attempted to leave the scene over gardens before being detained shortly afterwards.”

A man in his 40s from The Lizard has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drug driving.

A passenger in the vehicle was also detained on an outstanding warrant.

The driver remains in police custody at this time, as of lunchtime on Friday.
