A man devastated by the death of his partner found hanged from a tree in Falmouth at the weekend has today paid special tribute to him. Matthew Irons "married" Roger Irons in a civil partnership ceremony at Truro Register Office on July 29 2006.

It was in the early hours of last Saturday, August 2, that 21-year-old Roger was found in Chestnut Close.

He was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, where his death was confirmed.

Matthew has now paid tribute to Roger, describing him as “lovely.” He said: “He was bubbly and always smiling. He was very well known.”

Last October the couple appeared on the Jeremy Kyle Show on ITV1, as they were having a few problems in their relationship. But Matthew said that appearing on the programme solved everything and that everything in their marriage worked after that. By coincidence, the programme was repeated on the Tuesday after Roger’s death.

As a child Roger went to school at Beacon Junior and Infants and then Falmouth School, before becoming a care assistant at Sheldon House Nursing Home in Sea View Road.

His aunt, Bridget Irons, said: “He would help anyone out at the end of the day.”

She said the night before his death Roger celebrated his sister’s 18th birthday at the meadery in Budock Water, before the party returned to Falmouth for cocktails. This was the last time his family saw him.

Shortly before his death Roger is understood to have seen a man and told him what he planned to do. The man tried to talk to him, but Roger ran off, his aunt added.

By 6am on Saturday morning his aunt said you couldn’t move in her house as it “packed” with friends who had heard about his death.

Dozens of flower tributes have been left in an area of Chestnut Close and candles are lit every night.

The details of Roger’s funeral have not yet been finalised, but the service is expected to take place at Penwerris Church followed by a wake at the Four Winds. Details will be placed on the social networking websites Facebook and Bebo.

Roger leaves his husband Matthew, father Roger, mother Alison and three sisters, Kathryn, Lisa and Susan.
