Over 50 members of Helston Bowling Club attended the presentation evening at the Gwealdues Hotel in Helston on Friday night.

Guests enjoyed a superb buffet and the disco and the occasion offered everyone the chance to dress up and enjoy the company, as it’s not just on the green that the club has fun.

This year has been a very busy year, with Georgina Wallis being the Western Division chairman, and though her year has finished, the club invited her to attend and present the trophies. Georgina also brought a guest, Barbara Ball, who was the county ladies’ resident. At the presention some people did really well including Peter Heyden who won seven trophies and Fran Phillips who collected five.

Others who won their first trophies included Tracey Porter, a new member to the club, who won the opening day prize, the Derek Blaber trophy.

Vernon Booth won the charity cup with Ivor Pethick runner up. This was a great day, raising over £800 for the Precious Lives Charity, and in the awful weather conditions it was a great achievement. The final trophy was the Wincanton Cup which is given to members of the club who have made outstanding contributions to the club. This year it was presented to Gloria and Clifford Thomas. Gloria had just stood down after many years as ladies’ secretary, amongst other duties, and Clifford who had been the green keeper for many years, has just celebrated 50 years as a member of the Helston club this year. Every one thanked them for all that hey have done over the years, and hope they will keep bowling for many more.

During the winter the club keeps very busy with the short mat bowlsdivision and will be out on the green again next April.
