Friends and family have remembered the fascinating life of Eira Hibbert following her death at Trebah.

Mrs Hibbert died aged 91 on March 13. Her funeral will be at Mawnan Parish Church on Monday next, March 30 with a reception at the garden afterwards.

Donations will be for Mawnan Churches Buildings Trust and the Trebah Garden Trust.

Mrs Hibbert and her husband Tony were instrumental in restoring Trebah Garden to what visitors from all over enjoy today.

Mrs Hibbert died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family, as her son Chris said: “Just as she would have wished.”

She was a hard-working and dedicated woman and her former staff and friends have echoed that sentiment.

Neighbour Margaret Green said: “Eira was always welcoming and cheerful.

"She was fascinating about her childhood and earlier life and always positive.

"I valued her friendship and miss her very much.

"Her courage during her increasing health problems was inspirational.

"I wish I had known her for longer.”

Former Trebah employee Elizabeth Steel added that the garden would not be the same without her.

“Mrs Hibbert really was one of the kindest most selfless people I have ever met.

"She took everything in her stride, which at Trebah could mean pretty much anything. We'll miss her very much.”

Mrs Hibbert was a great supporter of her husband who is still much involved in Trebah although it is now run by a trust.
