To a background of cheering supporters, the Army's largest infantry regiment The Rifles were given the Freedom of Truro yesterday.
More than 70 soldiers took part in a march across Lemon Quay, led by the regiment's band and bugles. Most were reservists from the 6 Battalion.
Brigadier Jolyon Jackson, their Colonel South West, received a special freedom scroll and in return presented a silver bugle to Truro mayor Rosamund Cox.
The regiment were then joined by their affiliated cadet force, the Salamanca Band and their bugles and past and present personnel for a 140-member strong parade through the city ahead of the Sounding the Retreat back on Lemon Quay.
