Children’s Hospice South West has today revealed that retired soccer star Lee Sharpe will be joining the line up at the Celebrity Football Match in Truro next month.

The former Manchester footballer will be playing in the charity match at Truro City Football Club on Sunday, September 27, in aid of Children’s Hospice South West’s Precious Lives Appeal, to build a children’s hospice in Cornwall.

Sharpe, who started his career at Torquay United and was also Leeds United's record signing for 4.5 million in 1996, will join a star studded side including ex-England footballers Bryan Robson and Paul Merson, ex-Republic of Ireland player Keith O’Neill, ex-Norwich City player Ruel Fox, former Everton, Oldham, and Norwich player Mike Milligan, and Newquay boy and former Celtic and Middlesbrough right back Chris Morris. Former World Snooker Champion Ken Doherty, Westlife heartthrob Nicky Byrne, and former Wham! pop star Andrew Ridgeley will also be joining the celebrity side to help the local cause.

Emma Lloyd, Children’s Hospice South West Head of Fundraising (West) says: “Lee Sharpe is a favourite among football fans, and viewers of reality television. It will be wonderful to see him in action on the pitch again as he joins a side of stars at our Celebrity Football Match.

“Book your ticket now to make sure that you don’t miss out on the chance to see Lee, and a host of other stars, at this unique event! “As well as providing huge entertainment, we hope that the Celebrity Football Match will raise a significant amount of money to help us build Little Harbour – a children’s hospice in Cornwall.”

Children’s Hospice South West is the only organisation in the region providing specialist hospice care to children who are not expected to reach adulthood. Through its children’s hospices – Little Bridge House in North Devon, Charlton Farm in North Somerset, and eventually Little Harbour in Cornwall – the charity helps families with life-limited children enjoy precious time together in a relaxing home from home environment.

The Celebrity Football Match is taking place at Truro City Football Club on Sunday 27th September in aid of the Precious Lives Appeal, to help make the dream of Little Harbour a reality. The event is being kindly supported by Follett Stock, Air Southwest, and Duchy Cars. See the stars in action – book your ticket to this star studded event now!
