Chelsea and Manchester United fans in Cornwall will be given a chance to meet one of their former players when Mickey Thomas visits next month.

The player, who made made 90 appearances for Manchester United and 44 for Chelsea, will be at a sporting dinner at the Sandy Lodge Hotel, in Newquay, next month.

While he will be reflecting on his times at both club’s Mickey will no doubt have a few FA Cup tales to rival the shock provided by Leeds United at Old Trafford in this year’s third round.

Mickey was part of the Wrexham club in the 70s which establish a giant-killing reputation by reaching the quarter finals of the FA Cup in 1974 and the quarter finals of the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1976, when they lost to the eventual winners, Anderlecht of Belgium.

However, he is prehaps most remembered for his expliots in 1992 at the Racecourse Ground, where he scored direct from a free-kick at the age of 37 to help knock champions Arsenal out of the FA Cup.

The dinner on behalf of Newquay FC, will be held on Friday February 5, at the Sandy Lodge Hotel, Newquay. Tickets are priced at £25, including the meal. Call the Sandy Lodge Hotel, Newquay on 01637 872851 for more information.
