Hundreds of people gathered at Penryn Methodist Chapel today for the funeral of 23-year-old chef Nathan Laity.

Nathan, originally from Flushing, died in his flat in London on Mother’s Day after catching an infection from tonsillitis. He was working as a senior sous chef at the Tate Modern gallery.

Friends and family flocked to the chapel today to say goodbye to Nathan ahead of a private burial at Mylor cemetery and a wake at Castaways in Mylor, where he had been a chef.

Canon Anthony Phillips, who led the service, said: “This is a celebration of the life of Nathan. It is a sad day but also a day of joy so we can remember him with affection.”

The congregation heard tributes from Faye and Brian Harbisher from Castaways and his boss at the Tate in London. Both described him as an extremely talented chef and a fun-loving man with a great sense of humour.
