France missed the chance to go top of Group A after playing out a goalless draw with Uruguay in Cape Town.
Uruguay came closest to scoring through former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan whose shot was saved in the opening half. However, the South Americans finished the contest with 10 men after substitute Nicolas Lodeiro picked up two bookings.
France were arguably the better team and might have collected all three points with a free-kick deep into injury-time, but substitute Thierry Henry's strike hit the wall.
