Members hosted a well attended floral art event held in the Methodist Church, Falmouth on June 10.

It was a great privilege to welcome Susan Kehoe, a NAFAS Area Demonstrator, on her first visit to Falmouth and the audience was held spell-bound by the variety and quantity of her designs which were deftly assembled as she explained how she was inspired by a whole range of events in her life.

Her love affair with roses began as a child and she adapted the popular advertising slogan used by Cadburys to call her demonstration “Do Roses Grow on You?” and started the evening with arrangements reflecting that delicious range of sweets – an ideal way to enjoy a calorie free evening! The link with chocolate progressed as she brought to life an exciting arrangement reflecting the lush tropical foliage and flowers of West Africa where the cocoa beans grow and this, in turn, led on to more exotic arrangements inspired by a holiday in Sri Lanka accompanied by stories of her exciting experiences there.

Nearer home the final designs were motivated by Susan’s recent experience of being part of the successful NAFAS South West Team who gained Silver-Gilt Medal at the Chelsea Flower Show. An intricate garden bench woven from branches became the setting for one arrangement and a pair of garden urns beautifully decorated in pastel shades completed the show.

All these wonderful arrangements were raffled much to the delight of the winners and everyone agreed it had been a stimulating evening, which ended far too soon. The club meets in the Ord Statter Pavilion on the first Monday of the month and visitors are always very welcome.
