Over 125,000 people flooded through the gates of the 2010 Royal Cornwall Showground to give the Show its third-highest attendance.

The show, staged at Wadebridge attracted a total of 125,748 people – slightly more than last year’s 125,243.

A spectacular main ring entertainment programme was one of the factors that drew such a large and enthusiastic crowd, said show secretary Christopher Riddle.

Amongst the attractions were the JCB Dancing Diggers, the Devil’s Horsemen, the Band of HM Royal Marines and the RAF Falcons parachute display team.

The show also had an excellent entry of cattle, sheep and pigs and a big turnout of horses in the equine section.

Of particular significance was the first ever national South Devon Cattle show, which was staged at the Royal Cornwall and generated an excellent level of entry.

On day one of the show, Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall toured the show and visited a wide selection of stands and events.

The Duke carried out the official opening of the show’s new £50,000 sheep shearing shed and presented trophies to the first-day award winning horses and their riders.

“The Duke and Duchess were this year’s joint presidents and their informal visit was certainly one of the highlights of the show for many people,” said Mr. Riddle.

On the final day, the Band of HM Royal Marines played their arrangement of the hit song Congratulations in celebration of the award of the honour of Dame Commander of the Royal Victorian Order to Lady Mary Holborow in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Lady Mary and her husband Geoffrey were deputy joint presidents of this year’s show and Lady Mary is the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall.
