The Summer Service at Mabe Church on Sunday was well attended. Children, and some adults, brought their favourite cuddly toys to the service.

Father John Savage, in his address, alleged that there was a likeness between some toys and their owners and to prove his point he turned to his churchwarden, who had brought his own monkey-like toy, named Gary!

After the service folk walked the short distance to the home of Barbara Hewitt-Silk, where they enjoyed a picnic and some games. The weather was ideal and the location perfect. The adults were kept quiet with a brain-testing quiz. The event will be repeated, as it proved most successful.

The money from two fund raising events was handed over last week. At least £130 was raised for church funds from the tombola stall at the Mabe Spring Fair. Thanks must be passed on to all who supported this event. A cheque for £200 was handed over to Mabe (St Laudus) Brownies, which was raised by the reader at St Laudus and St Michael's churches, Martin Brown.

Martin, known as Badger to the Brownies, went on a sponsored diet and lost over 19 pounds in Lent. He was extremely grateful for all the support he received and to the people who sponsored him.

Services at both St Laudus and St Michael's are back to normal on Sunday 9.30am at St Laudus and 11.15am at St Michael's.
