As football fever kicked off with the start of the World Cup last Friday, one of the busiest places in town was the re-launched Trelawney's, back with the old name above the door but new people in charge and a new look indoors.

It is now owned by two couples, Geoff and Sam King and Neil and Michelle Langmaid, with whom they also own the King's Head in Chacewater.

Neil and Michelle are now running the Chacewater pub, while Geoff and Sam have taken on the task of running Trelawney's in Coinagehall Street.

They gave returned to the name the bar and club is most commonly known by, although it has been running for the past year as Remedies.

Sam said: "Everyone knows it as Trelawney's. When everyone calls it that there's no point having it different."

Geoff, who used to be deputy manager at Mullion Holiday Park, said Trelawney's had the potential to be as busy as in its heyday a few years ago.

One of the biggest changes is the addition of a sports bar upstairs, which is open seven days a week between noon and 11pm and is showing World Cup matches on widescreen TVs.

Draped in flags and donning their England shirts, football fans flocked to the new bar to watch England's first game in the tournament in South Africa to cheer on the team against the USA. There was an almighty roar after just three minutes when Steven Gerrard put England ahead, but an equally loud groan just before half time when Robert Green spilled the ball to make it 1-1.

Previously the overflow for the club downstairs, the room now has pool tables, games machines and two large televisions on which sporting events will be shown. The timing could not be better, with the World Cup just over a week away.

Downstairs the nightclub remains, although it has been given a lick of paint, a new carpet and a thorough clean, with the toilets refurbished.

The club is currently opening Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10.30pm, opening until 2.30am Thursdays and Fridays and until 4am on Saturdays.

The plan is to introduce theme nights, including Ibiza-style foam parties, with Thursday already ladies' night where women have free entry.
