Members met in Chynhale Schoolroom at 7.30pm on June 10 on a lovely sunny evening.

Sally, president, welcomed members and a new one, Pam Lanigan. Crete read the minutes of the last meeting, which were approved and signed. Three members had attended the chairman's coffee morning and enjoyed the event which was well attended. The visit to Culdrose air base proved very interesting and was enjoyed by those who went. Sally read out a very comprehensive report from Liz Anderson of the Annual WI conference held in Cardiff. This year the annual subscription is to go up by 50p to £30. The resolution calling for clearer food labelling giving the country of origin of the contents was passed by 6,230 votes to 55 votes. WI branded cakes are to be sold in supermarkets. Speakers were Gwen Parry Jones, the first woman director of a nuclear power station, Tim Smitt of the Eden Project and Lee Durrel. Entertainment was by Only Men Aloud .

As the speaker did not arrive refreshments were served early by Gillian and Pam, whilst three members who had not entered the competition judged it: "An item of old ironmongery" – 1, Wendy; 2, Crete; 3, Margaret T. Sally won the raffle.

On July 8 at 7.30pm in Chynhale Schoolroom the meeting will be a talk by Alan Burton on Helston Railway Preservation Society and the competition is A Seaside Postcard.
