The preacher at morning worship was Mildred Baxter from Prussia Cove. Taking a broad theme of “judgment” Mrs Baxter referred to Nathan’s confrontation with David after the latter’s adulterous relationship with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband. Illustrative material from the New Testament included the washing of Jesus’ feet by the prostitute after the host (Levi) had failed to show proper hospitality to Our Lord as a guest. David Philp was organist.

Evening service was led by Louise Luing from Rosudgeon, who posed the question “Are you afraid of the dark?” and made the point that Jesus is with us in times of difficulty. Paul Brown played the organ.

Owing to an unfortunate accumulation of logistical problems, the format for this year’s St Peterstide on Saturday, June 26, has had to be somewhat altered. The changes may not be permanent, but the committee have reached their decision in order to overcome the present situation and maintain the celebration of a festival which goes well back into Porthleven’s past history. The day will begin with coffee and brunch at the chapel in Fore Street, from 10.30am. This will be followed by a short time of worship at noon, after which the usual Procession of Witness will head off around the village, ending back at the chapel, where cream teas will be served. The Town Band will be giving a performance in the chapel yard. All are welcome.
