One busy chick has been working tirelessly with her knitting needles and raising money for charity in Truro.
Edna Liddicoat, an 85-year-old from St Austell has spent the last three years knitting Easter chicks for the Merlin Project – a multiple sclerosis therapy centre with the chicks on sale in Truro.
Edna said that she channelled her love for knitting into raising vital funds for the charity, which is a charity close to her heart given that her grand-daughter suffers from multiple sclerosis.
Among her varied crafts her most popular is her Easter chicks, to date she has knitted over 1200 chicks. As a result of an increasing demand she has had to rope in six members of her family give her a helping hand.
Edna said: “We have a real laugh, we have been known to have a whole day of knitting.”
Since beginning her idea, her good willed knitting has led to raising over £10,000 for the charity. The proceeds have helped to pay for a new piece of equipment for the centre, a Vibrogym which helps the patients get their vital exercise.
Neurological Physicist Becky Dunstan said that that the Vibrogym is very beneficial.
“The Vibrogym is a fantastic piece of equipment, especially for Multiple Sclerosis sufferers because it can be used equally successfully by people who are chair dependant as well as those who are more able.”
