The thought of clotted cream drew members to the June meeting as the speaker was Philip Rodda, the last of his generation of Roddas in the famous family Creamery.

He played an extremely interesting video made by Westward TV ten years ago about the Rodda dynasty and asked us to look for the mistake in the film - we spotted it and the family had been horrified when they saw it – a cream tea was shown with the jam on top of the cream on scones – not a proper Cornish Cream Tea! Mr Rodda then answered numerous questions about the company’s past and future and everyone was given a pint of milk, a pack of butter and a tub of crème fraiche. We were also shown attractive tins of shortbread and fudge which are available in shops and other promotional items – tea towels, aprons and die-cast models of three of their original vehicles.

The competition for three plain scones: 1, Ann Jeffery; 2, Jenny Browne; 3, Sue Rayment. Barbara Muxlow and Pam McNally won the raffle prizes.

The entry for the Royal Cornwall Cup ‘A Good Read’ was on display prior to being taken to Wadebridge. The book chosen was ‘Pip of Pengersick’ and members were pleased that the author, Jane West, and her mother had been able to attend the meeting. Jane admired the entry and hoped it would do well.

There were numerous lists for exciting county and local events so none could complain of having nothing to do! The Bring & Buy Stall raised £25 and surplus goods were kept for the Rosudgeon Car Boot Sale in August. The July meeting will be on a changed format – meet at the Community Centre at 2pm on Tuesday, July 13 for a short business meeting and then proceed to Trevarno for a garden visit and tea.
