Stithians 68 Mawnan 52

Mawnan, on top of the their League this week, were away to Stithians on Wednesday, not an easy venue to get points from, writes Tony Stevenson.

Jack Gretton's rink had Richard Ragg (1) Henry Trewhella (2) Robert Thompson (3) and were up against a strong side containing Harry Barnes (skip) and Jack Garland (3) to name but two.

Mawnan soon found themselves on the receiving end and by the tea break found themselves down 12 - 6.

Stithians did not let up and won the rink 28 - 16.

On Malcolm Dearnley’s rink were Don Hall (1) Nick Fletcher (2) John Lethbridge (3), for Stithians were Max Burley (skip) David Rickard (3) W. Prouse (2) Phil Mathews (1).

The home side, with local knowledge, took the lead from the start and were 7 - 2 up after six ends by which time Mawnan had found the line and went into the lead 7 - 13 after 11 ends. Stithians came back and by the 18th end were only one shot behind at 16 - 17 with it all to play for but Mawnan won the last 3 ends 1, 2, 1 to win the rink 16 - 21.

Chris Gee’s rink had Trevor Wilshaw (1) Tony Stevenson (2) John Wright (3) Stithians had David Pascoe (skip) Edwin Watson (3) Jack Penrose (2) Paul Treveja (1).

The home side set off at a tremendous pace winning eight out of the first 10 ends while Mawnan could only stand and stare.

At the tea break the score was 15 - 2 and Mawnan at last started to play winning six out of the remaining 10 ends, but too late to make a difference losing the rink 24-15.

Mawnan lost the game to a good side playing on their own ground and were disappointed to only take one point out of the five, but are looking forward to entertaining Stithians at Mawnan on the July 16.

MAWNAN 48 MYLOR 39

On Friday the Strollers took to the field at home to Mylor.

John Smith's rink with Vi Smith (1) Hazel Wilkes (2) were slow off the mark losing the first three ends and finding themselves down 2 - 7 after seven ends. However, the home side reversed the tables to lead 12 - 7 with five ends to play.

Mylor, lead by K Parke could only manage to take two of those ends and lost the rink 15-10.
