WITH games against two of their closest rivals in the league table, Falmouth A had a week of mixed fortunes.

Falmouth A 82 Chacewater B 50 Welcoming Chacewater B to the Falmouth green, the men’s captain, David Winnan’s rink were to play Chacewater’s Ernie Eva’s squad on rink one.

After a close start Chacewater led after eight ends 8-3, but they then got stuck on eight for the next four ends as Falmouth took the lead 11-8 and soon followed this with a decisive 4-2-3 to take a 20-9 lead after 15 ends.

Falmouth then relaxed for four ends as Chacewater recovered to 16-20. However, the Falmouth rink finished in style with 2-2-1 to win the game 25-16.

Rink two saw Falmouth’s Tom Reid’s rink make a good first end strike of four shots against Chacewater’s David Williamson’s rink. By the sixth end Chacewater had recovered well, with David Williamson playing some great bowls to rob Falmouth of shots to take an 8-6 lead. They immediately followed this with seven shots on the seventh end to lead 15-6 and Falmouth were in trouble.

The Falmouth squad then got their heads down to fight back and win the next four ends with 3-3-1-4 to overtake the Chacewater rink and lead 17-15. Undeterred Chacewater again took the lead 20-17 after 15 ends, but Falmouth levelled the scores at 20-20. Chacewater then scored two shots, but Falmouth had the last say collecting a 4-2 on the last two ends to win the match 26-22.

Rink three saw Falmouth’s Paul Bobins rink make a tremendous start to take a 13-0 lead after six ends against R Darlington’s Chacewater’s rink.

After 14 ends Falmouth led 24-8 as Chacewater could only score single shots as the Falmouth rink continued to dominate. They collected twos and threes and went on to win the game 31-12 to give Falmouth all five points to Chacewater’s B nil.

Mylor 70 Falmouth A 48 In a game of two halves, Falmouth A, after winning the first ten ends on every rink, led the Mylor team on every rink with a total overall advantage of ten shots, only to see every Falmouth rink collapse dramatically in the second half.

Every rink had much the same story – Mylor not at their best in the first half came out in the second half with every rink playing long jacks, and as the green got heavier, the Falmouth bowlers struggled to find the length, whereas the Mylor team all looked very comfortable on their own green and gradually their confidence returned to swamp the Falmouth team.

Mylor went on to win very comfortably in the end by 22 shots and take all five points to a very dejected Falmouth team’s nil.
