There will be cheers from anyone with the name of George or a derivative of it in Falmouth as they can get themselves a free drink in celebration England’s patron saint.
To mark St George’s Day next Saturday, April 23, the Chainlocker & Shipwrights pub in Quay Street is giving away one free drink to anyone over the age of 18 and called George, Georgina or a name derived from it.
Once they have shown their ID they can choose from a pint of standard lager / bitter, a 175ml glass of house wine, a 14oz soft drink or a cup of tea or coffee.
Olly Jakes, marketing executive at the pub, said: “Slaying dragons is not compulsory! It’s actually unlikely that St George ever fought a dragon, but he has certainly become a very important person for England and we want to honour him by drinking to his memory with his namesakes.”
