Budock is preparing for six days of fun in its annual carnival week, starting this Sunday.

It all kicks off with fun and games in the village playing field between 1pm and 4pm, when there will be a bouncy castle, coconut shy, tin pan alley and ‘bat the rat’ competition, among other activities. There will also be a barbecue and hot and cold drinks. Action then moves to the Trelowarren Arms in the village.

Tuesday sees the village’s fiercely contested pasty making competition, with a prize for the best traditional offering and another for the best novelty pasties. Entries should be at the pub by 7.30pm for judging at 8pm.

The following day, Wednesday, there will be bingo with cash prizes at 8.30pm, on Thursday there will be a euchre drive at 8pm and on Friday will be a quiz starting at 8.30pm.

Saturday is carnival day, with judging at 5.30pm in the playing field ahead of a parade through the village, led by St Keverne Band who will perform outside the Trelowarren Arms afterwards.

This is a walking carnival and the road through the village will be officially closed from School Lane to Parc Stephney while it takes place. Outside the Trelowarren Arms there will also be a barbecue and grand raffle with many prizes provided by local supporters, both private and business. All the proceeds made from the fundraising events are put towards the village children's Christmas party, the playing field, next year's carnival and, should enough be made, local charities.
