Anyone going to the cinema to see new animation film Arthur Christmas this week could be in for a surprise as it revolves around the village of Mylor Bridge near Penryn.

The family festive flick from Sony Pictures Animation and Aardman Animations, the company behind Wallace and Gromit, tells the story of a forgotten present that must be delivered by Arthur Christmas and Grandad Santa to Trelew, Mylor in time for Christmas.

There are a number of references to the village, including a shot of a signpost to ‘Mylor Bridge.’ Mylor’s church is shown, although the animators have made a few of their own interpretations, with the village newsagents becoming a Co-op for the film.

A spokesman for Aardman Animations said: “The reason Mylor was chosen is because we wanted a typical English village and stand out name that could be paired with a name in another part of the world.

“It is paired with Trelew in South America, but you need to see the film to find out why.”

Tony Andrew, chairman of Mylor Parish Council, said he was “most certainly” proud of Mylor’s association, adding that he welcomed “any publicity that’s good.”
