Falmouth residents awoke to an unusual site this morning - an oil rig anchored in the heart of the famous bay.
Happily, there is no danger of any drilling starting just off Gyllyngvase beach - the rig is merely stopping while it and its powerful salvage tug take on bunkers.
The semi-submersible rig, the Ocean Guardian, is on its way to Invergordon after performing a series of test drills in waters off the Falkland Islands.
It has been towed the 7,000 miles back from the South Atlantic, with the current tug, the Rotterdam, having taken over the tow at Las Palmas.
