The Grade II listed All Saints Church in Tuckingmill has received cash to help with repairs.
The church has been awarded a £146,000 grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund after it was put on an "endangered" list.
The church needs a total of about £250,000 to repair stonework, with members of the congregation already raising close to £25,000.
Initially investigatory work will be carried out at the sandstone built church to discover the extent of the damage.
