The Writers’ Block at Cornwall College Camborne is offering a host of workshops and opportunities for aspiring writers, illustrators and book makers this spring in a space that is dedicated to the art of creative writing and stories.

Novelist, editor and teacher Wyl Menmuir, kicks off the season on January 26 from 1-4pm with a session on Exploring Point of View. Wyl will explore and experiment with a range of ways to employ different points of view.

Screenwriter, short story writer, performer and curator Jane Pugh will lead a series of three workshops entitled The Great Adventure, exploring themes and why we are compelled to write, structure and plot, character and dialogue. Jane will guide writers through a compelling process which can be applied to all types of writing. Her sessions are on February 5 and 26 and March 19 from 1-4pm.

Every month a group of keen young writers aged from 13 to 17 meet with Jane on a Saturday morning to think, chat about books and ideas and write - their next session is on February 10.

Also monthly, Keith Sparrow runs a drop in Manga drawing session for all ages where he sets illustrative challenges for young artists. The next session is February 19 from 3-5.30pm.

Pulling all these threads together are two writing, illustrating and bookmaking sessions - one in half term on February 15 for children and families, and another for adults on March 3. These will be led by artists Melanie Young, Keith Sparrow and Tony Crosby.

And finally all this new work needs an audience. The Writers’ Block is hosting a Speakeasy evening for emerging writers to share stories and poetry on February 22.

“Our ambition for The Writers’ Block is that it becomes a cultural hub for creative writing in mid Cornwall to support and develop talent with young people, artists, writers and the wider community, said Amanda Harris, director of KEAP (Kernow Education Arts Partnership) and the Writers' Block. "We’ve had some fabulous writing created in this place and often from people who didn’t think they could."
