CAMBORNE and Redruth played out another pulsating draw in the traditional Boxing Day clash in front of a bumper crowd of more than 2,000 at the Recreation Ground.

Ten days after the teams could not be separated in their National Two West encounter a tie was once again a fitting outcome this time in competition for the Rodda’s Milk Cup.

Rodda’s cream is now famous worldwide having been around since 1890 which is almost as long as the enduring Cornish derby itself.

On a perfect day for rugby, the famous Camborne slope played a big part with the home side given first advantage to build up a 28-0 lead at the break before the visitors repeated the dose in the second period to level matters.

The Cherry & Whites dominated the opening half and ran in four tries in total through flanker Jordan Nicholls, wing Harry Larkins, prop Tommy Southworth and hooker Ben Priddey with full-back Aaron Simmonds adding the conversions.

Redruth responded with purpose after the interval and levelled matters up with tries from centres Sam James & Harry Andrewartha, No. 8 Sam Stevens and prop Tommy Phillips. Replacement fly-half Dan Rutter landed the conversions.

Late on Camborne surged upfield seeking a decisive score but resolute Redruth defence kept them out.

More than 6,000 supporters have witnessed the three epic clashes between these two Mining Division giants this season proving beyond doubt that grassroots rugby is alive and kicking in Cornwall.

Final score: Camborne 28 - 28 Redruth
