Old Redcliffians 47 - Camborne 15

Camborne RFC returned empty handed from their trip to Bristol as the home side capitalised decisively on their scoring opportunities to run out convincing winners, writes Martin Symons

The Cherry & Whites welcomed back lock Damien Cook & fly half Jordan Sidwell after lengthy lay offs and both put in solid 80 minute shifts.

It was an emotional day for Old Reds as they staged a fundraising & awareness event for player Ellis Joseph who is in desperate need of a stem cell donor. Several Camborne players undertook swab tests and the Club was pleased to present a cash donation to the cause pre match.

Fired up the home side took an early 14-0 lead but Camborne quickly hit back with a corner touchdown from left wing Jack Kessell. Connor Gilbert’s conversion unfortunately came back off a post but soon after Ben Priddey was driven over for a try to cut the deficit to only four points.

Still inside the 1st quarter Old Reds made it 19-10 but from that point the visitors went on to dominate the remainder of the half playing down the slope.

Unfortunately for ‘Town’ a number of good opportunities to bag a halftime lead came to nothing as a combination of errors and stout home defence kept them out.

Facing an uphill task in the 2nd period an early chance to reduce the arrears crucially came to nothing as right wing Lewis Vinnicombe’s scoring inside pass found the hands of the last defender.

Three converted tries including one apiece from an interception and a charged down clearance allowed the home side to pull clear but Camborne would not lie down and hooker Priddey bagged his 21st try of the season to make the score 40-15.

In the closing stages the visitors continued to throw everything into attack in search of a try bonus point but instead a 7th home touchdown wrapped things up.
