Camborne maintained their slender advantage at the top of National Two West with an excellent bonus point win over 4th placed Cinderford at the Recreation Ground.
On top throughout, the Cherry & Whites were adjudged as held up over the try line on four separate occasions as well as unfortunately losing possession in the act of scoring on another.
Facing the wind and slope in the first half, the home side kept the determined visitors pinned back throughout the first quarter.
‘Town’ opened the scoring on 14 minutes when Sam Walker’s well-timed inside pass gave lock Brad Howe space to charge upfield.
Although the attack was halted, the ball was swiftly recycled to centre Will Hennessy, who dummied and dived over from close range.
On the half hour, Cinderford built some pressure and a series of forward drives earned them the lead courtesy of a well-converted try.
Camborne promptly roared back upfield and a succession of energy-sapping charges to the line ended with Josh Matavesi crashing over.
Fly half Walker converted for 12-7 with matters staying that way up to the break.
With the advantage of the slope in the 2nd period, the home side immediately camped deep in visiting territory only to lose possession on the try line.
On the hour, hooker Ben Priddey and centre Matavesi were both denied close in by last-ditch Cinderford tackles before the defence was finally breached from further out.
Industrious No 8 Aden Brassington burst clear in front of the grandstand before releasing Alex Ducker, who raced over in the West Bank corner.
Walker made amends for an earlier penalty miss by striking a majestic touchline conversion for 19-7.
It was now all Camborne and after replacement, Adam Hughes was another to be held up going over, the bonus point was finally delivered in style.
Attacking off a scrum to the left of the posts, Matavesi neatly fed Ducker, who had come in from his left wing to cut through the cover for his 27th try of the season.
Walker again landed the conversion to take his team out of sight.
With the last play of the game, the visitors bagged a well-worked consolation try with the conversion making the final score 26-14.
Camborne’s attention now turns to a massive top-of-the-table clash at Clifton on Saturday 5th April, where the destiny of the National Two West title is likely to be determined.
