After hours on Friday, as part of the Museums at Night national festival, the Royal Cornwall Museum in Truro is opening for an evening of Magic Lantern family entertainment.
The magic lantern was invented in the 16th century and is considered a direct ancestor of the film projector.
‘Professor’ Mervyn Heard will be bringing his world renowned Peerless Magic Lantern Show to the museum for this special evening. He will be using a traditional Victorian projector to create a show tailored especially for families. '
Museums at Night is an annual festival, celebrating inspiring after-hours cultural events at museums, galleries and heritage sites across the UK.
The evening kicks off at 6pm with a show for families with children under the age of 11, followed at 7pm with a show for older children. There will also be the chance to view the museum’s mineral gallery glinting in the dark and enjoy the atmosphere of the museum ‘after hours’.
Tickets cost £4.50 per person or a family ticket for up to four people for £16. Booking is essential on 01872 272205 or by email at enquiries@royalcornwallmuseum.org.uk.
