The Royal Cornwall Museum has added a surprise exhibition to its autumn programme. Bruegel’s Mirror features several engravings of 16th century Flemish artist Pieter Bruegel the Elder, reinterpreted in glorious colour by local artist Laurence Smith.
The exhibition, which| features 17 large oil paintings, together with a selection of engravings, is a study of Bruegel’s humour and his little-known graphic works. By turning these drawings into oil paintings, to mirror the colours and energy of Bruegel’s paintings, Laurence Smith has allowed the work to become more accessible.
The exhibition, which includes some special family activities, devised by Laurence, will be on show in the Treffry Gallery at the Royal Cornwall Museum until November 8.
The museum is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 4.45pm.
Entry is free for all aged 18 and under. Adult admission is £4.50 for an annual pass – pay once, visit for free all year.
