HAVING recently heard that Cornwall Council leader, Linda Taylor, has been nominated for a "Leader of the Year" award, I immediately had to check that I hadn't inadvertently taken my dog's medication.

Now, I know what you're thinking: "ANOTHER rant at Cornwall Council? How original." However, I feel this is something that needs to be said.

Linda Taylor's leadership was described as "Inspiring" by those I can only assume were the ones to nominate her. Are we talking "inspiring" in the way that if you've seen someone die horrifically in a car crash, you're inspired to become a safer driver?

What on Earth has Linda Taylor done that remotely qualifies as "Inspiring?" Would someone please enlighten me as to just what exactly we've missed here?

From leading her party's failed bid to influence, cajole and scare the Cornish people into installing a mayor for Cornwall, to being warned by fellow councillors from that same political party not to give her any more power, none of this strikes me as particularly inspiring.

It makes you wonder, who would put her name forward for such an award? Perhaps someone equally vapid and stale? Most likely, but then that doesn't exactly narrow it down much. Unfortunately, the lack of inspiring leadership at Cornwall Council doesn't stop at Linda Taylor.
