Brilliant sunshine greeted the 74 players that turned out for the Frank Harris Qualifier at Falmouth Golf Club on Saturday, writes Keith Rashleigh.

The competition format was a medal with a maximum of 18 handicap where the top eight players go through to compete for the trophy in matchplay knockout.

In third place was Crispin Merritt who had a nett score of 68 with a birdie on the first followed by 12 pars. In second losing out on countback with a nett 67 was Robbie Edgson who carded nine pars, five on the front nine and four on the back. First place went to popular current Falmouth Golf Club Men’s Captain Phil Jones, also with a nett 67 with six pars, three on the front nine and tjree on the back.

Nine players carded "twos" - Ray A Clark. Chris Nicholls and Tom Prior at the second. There were 39 birdies in total. The easiest hole was the 15th which averaged + 0.54 while the most difficult was the 17th which averaged + 1.69.

Falmouth Golf Clubs County B side were in action on Saturday morning, playing Truro Golf Club in the semi-final, which was held at Mullion Golf Club to end a very successful County Week, writes Phil Jones.

First on the tee for Falmouth were the pairing of Luke Geach and Callum Davis who were receiving two shots from their opponents Truro’s Dean Harris and Simon Bray.

Second off Falmouth’s Will Sercombe and Nick Hodges were conceding two shots to Truro’s Andy Watson and Rich Wild.

In the third match Falmouth’s Rob Connolly and Chris North were up against Truro’s Grant and Jacob Champion where no shots were given.

Geach and Davis made a brilliant start going four up after the first six holes but with Sercombe and Hodges, and Connolly and North, both four down through six in their matches Falmouth were up against it.

Geach and Davis continued to turn the screw and went six up after 11 and went on to win their match six and four. On this occasion it was a big ask for the other two Falmouth pairings with Sercombe and Hodges losing eight and six, and Conolly and North losing out five and four, to end Falmouth Golf Club's excellent run in this competition.

Congratulations must go to Truro Golf Club, who played some brilliant golf with their final two parings playing to one and two over gross. They went on to play Budock Vean Golf Club in the final, losing out two to one, making Budock Vean Golf Club County B champions.
