The Eastwood Racing Team in Double Trouble went from disaster to victory at the UKOPRA 2024 Cowes-Torquay-Cowes Offshore Power Boat Race.

The Falmouth-based team faced pulling out only a week ago after an engine unexpectedly exploded during sea trials.

With a new engine installed just before the race, Gary Adlington and Tom Gardner piloted the Fountain 42 Lightening Race powerboat to success.

The team encountered a rocky trip past Portland Bill to Torquay and were in 2nd place at the halfway stage.

However, on the return stretch to Cowes, they surged into the lead, claiming 1st position.

Gary Adlington of Eastwood Motors said: "It's been a very tough week and we are a small local team, but they have all pulled together to make this win possible putting Cornwall on the map for offshore racing".

The race was watched by supporters on a live stream and via the Facebook page.
