HOLIDAY resort Landal Gwel an Mor has launched its commitment to sustainable tourism by committing to a "Green Pledge".

The newly launched initiative will demonstrate how Landal GreenParks UK is investing in a brighter, cleaner future and committing to offer unforgettable natural getaways with a positive impact on the environment.

Bill Haslam, owner of Landal Gwel an Mor in Portreath, said: “We are delighted to become ambassadors, not only in the region but nationally to campaign for a sustainable travel. We work hard to provide an unforgettable, greener holiday experience, whilst always looking to improve our green credentials.”

The green initiative has been welcomed by Landal Gwel an Mor, who is already implementing positive and sustainable changes across the resort including:

• Presented with the David Bellamy Special Distinction award for the resorts innovative and inspirational eco-hive project which offers a unique home to wild bees

• Planting 600 trees as an ongoing tree planting project as well as promoting biodiversity, with dedicated wildflower and nature areas

• Providing food bank collection points for all guests and staff to donate into

• Using low energy lighting, lights controlled by movement and light sensors where practical

• Have installed water saving devices on all taps in lodges to help reduce water wastage

• Large solar panels on the reception roof help supply power to the reception, pool, gym and spa

• Rescuing animals that cannot otherwise live in the wild at the on-site Feadon Wildlife Centre

• The restaurant uses locally sourced produce where possible with all food waste being fed to the animals at Feadon Wildlife Centre, all peelings and grass cuttings are made into compost which is used on the gardens around the resort

Mr Haslam and his team joined Paul Hardingham of Landal GreenParks UK to plant aspen, silver birch, rowan, wild cherry and lime trees to mark this important commitment for the company.

Paul said: “We are already working closely with our resorts and partners to ensure a sustainable future; however, this pledge will further our actions and impact, which will enable us to reach our goal of being carbon neutral by 2030. We are dedicated to raising further awareness of sustainable travel and driving positive change among our resorts and holidaymakers.”

In December, Landal GreenParks UK became the first holiday resort company to be awarded the prestigious Green Key accreditation – an eco-label, awarded to accommodation and other hospitality facilities that promote a culture of sustainable development and environmental awareness, whilst taking steps to reduce their own level of consumption and carbon footprint.
