AN eco packaging company based in Porthleven has made the finals of a prestigious awards.

Flexi-Hex will line up at the 2020 National Recycling Awards, which are the top awards in the recycling and resource management sector, with winning projects and teams recognised for their achievements within the industry and further along the supply chain.

Flexi-Hex has made the finals in not one but two categories – The Innovation Award as well as The Recycled Product of the Year.

The overall winners will be announced at an award ceremony on December 15 at the London Hilton, Park Lane.

The company impressed a panel of industry judges by showcasing its innovative, reusable, protective packaging product made entirely from recycled paper pulp.

Flexi-Hex can be used to protect fragile products, as an alternative to single use plastic, such as bubble wrap.

Once it reaches the end of its life is then fully curbside recyclable, biodegradable and compostable.

Director Sam Boex said: "We are very excited to hear that Flexi-Hex has been shortlisted for the Recycled Product of The Year and The Innovation Award.

"We feel privileged to be finalists at the prestigious National Recycling Awards, along with other amazing industry teams, who are collectively bringing so much energy and enthusiasm to recycling and waste management."

Flexi-Hex, with its patented design and distinctive honeycomb structure, was originally created by twin brothers Will and Sam Boex, who recognised the impact that single-use plastic was having on their local and the world’s marine environment.

Their passion for surfing, background in design and their personal experience of transporting boards around the globe, inspired them to create a sustainable, paper packaging sleeve originally for the board sports industry, but which is now available globally for many different products, across many sectors.
